Hyderabad: Biryani continues to reign supreme as India’s favorite dish, dominating the online food delivery market, according to Swiggy’s latest Food Trend Report. For the ninth year in a row, Biryani has topped the list of most-ordered foods, highlighting its immense popularity among Indian food lovers.
Between January 1 and November 22, 2024, a staggering 83 million Biryani orders were placed, equating to 158 Biryanis ordered every minute and two Biryanis every second. Following Biryani, Dosa secured the second spot with 23 million orders.
Swiggy’s report indicated that Chicken Biryani remains the most loved variant, with 4.9 million orders. Hyderabad led the charge, with residents ordering over 9.7 million Chicken Biryanis. Bengaluru and Chennai followed with 7.7 million and 4.6 million orders, respectively. Among late-night snacks, Chicken Burgers topped the list, with 1.84 million orders placed between midnight and 2 AM.
Masala Dosa maintained its dominance in Bengaluru, with residents ordering 2.5 million Dosas within the same period. In Delhi, Chandigarh, and Kolkata, traditional favorites like Chole, Aloo Paratha, and Kachori saw high demand.
In a surprising revelation, a Swiggy user from Bengaluru spent Rs 49,900 on pasta orders over the year, including 55 Fettucine Alfredo, 40 Mac and Cheese, and 30 Spaghetti orders.
This year, Swiggy recorded a 29% increase in dinner orders compared to lunch, totaling 215 million orders. Chicken Rolls emerged as the favorite snack with 2.48 million orders, followed by Chicken Momos (1.63 million orders) and Potato Fries (1.3 million orders).
Swiggy delivery personnel collectively traveled 1.96 billion kilometers, equivalent to making 533,000 trips from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Kapil Kumar Pandey from Mumbai delivered the highest number of orders at 10,703, while Kaliashwari M from Coimbatore topped the charts among female delivery personnel with 6,658 deliveries.
