Hyderabad: A major encounter unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 Naxalites and minor injuries to two security personnel on March 29, 2025. The operation, conducted by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), marks a critical step in the ongoing fight against Naxalite insurgency in the region.
The confrontation occurred in a dense forested area under the Kerlapal police station jurisdiction, near the Sukma-Dantewada border. Acting on specific intelligence about Naxalite presence, the joint team launched the operation on the night of March 28. Intermittent gunfire broke out in the early hours of March 29, leading to a fierce exchange between security forces and the insurgents.
The operation neutralized 20 Naxalites, while two jawans sustained minor injuries during the encounter. Security forces are now combing the area to ensure it is secure and to gather further intelligence. Sukma district, located in the Bastar region, has long been a hotspot for Naxalite activities. The encounter is part of the ‘Operation Kagar’, a broader strategy to dismantle Naxalite networks and restore peace in affected areas.
