Borewell spits fire instead of water in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur: Panic gripped residents of Chikani village in Surajpur after a newly drilled borewell started emitting fire and gas instead of water. The incident occurred in a farmer’s field, causing a significant stir among the villagers.

According to eyewitnesses, the borewell, which was about 150 feet deep, began spewing flames and gas after drilling was completed. The unexpected fire was caused by the accumulation of methane gas under the ground, likely due to the presence of nearby coal mines.

Local authorities and engineers from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department were quick to respond to the situation. They advised the villagers to pour sand into the borewell slowly to extinguish the fire.

“Methane gas can accumulate under the ground, and there are many coal mines in Surajpur,” explained Pradeep Khalkho, Executive Engineer of the PHE Department. “Pouring sand slowly will help extinguish the fire and prevent any further danger.”

Despite the efforts, the fire continued to flare up, causing concern among the villagers. Some villagers even considered the incident a divine miracle and started performing puja at the site.

The PHE department has issued a warning to the villagers to stay away from the area until the situation is fully under control. The department is also working on a long-term solution to prevent such incidents in the future.
