Visakhapatnam: Big relief was extended to a Pakistani family in Visakhapatnam amid fears of deportion. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government issued strict orders for Pakistani nationals to leave the country immediately. The deadline for compliance ended on April 29. However, amidst this tense situation, a Pakistani family in Visakhapatnam received temporary relief.
The family approached Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi, explaining their predicament. They revealed that their son was undergoing medical treatment at a local hospital and required continued care. The family requested permission to stay in Visakhapatnam until the treatment was completed.
The family also mentioned that they had previously applied for a long-term visa, but their application was still pending. Responding promptly, Commissioner Bagchi brought the matter to the attention of the government. Following consultations with senior officials at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad, the family was granted verbal permission to remain in India temporarily. Commissioner Bagchi confirmed that they could stay in Visakhapatnam until further notice.
The family’s situation is unique, as the husband and elder son hold Pakistani citizenship, while the wife and younger son are Indian citizens. This mixed citizenship status added complexity to their case. The family expressed gratitude for the temporary relief granted by the authorities.
