Karregutta: A fierce encounter unfolded in the Karregutta region, spanning the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, as part of the ongoing Operation Kagar. Security forces engaged in a bloody showdown with Maoists entrenched in the densely forested area, which is considered a stronghold for the insurgents. Reports indicate that six Maoists were killed in the exchange of fire, while over 300 Maoists are believed to be camping in the region.
The operation has mobilized approximately 12,000 security personnel, who have strategically positioned themselves around the hillocks, effectively sealing off entry points to the Maoist pocket. The Maoists had earlier issued a statement warning civilians against venturing into the area, claiming it was heavily mined for self-defense. However, the party later denied issuing such a statement, raising suspicions of a ploy to lure security forces into a booby trap.
Inspector General Chandrasekhar Reddy clarified that local police were not involved in the operation, which is being jointly led by central paramilitary forces and Chhattisgarh police. The situation remains tense as security forces continue their efforts to dismantle Maoist strongholds and neutralize threats in the region.
