Myanmar quakes release energy equivalent to 334 atomic bombs

Bangkok: The devastation is immense, comparable to the sheer force and magnitude of a catastrophic calamity. Indeed, it is as devastating as the strike of multiple atomic bombs, all exploding at once. The energy released by the two powerful earthquakes struck Myanmar and Thailand within a span of just 12 minutes, leaving behind widespread destruction and a rising death toll, was enormous and unprecedented.

According to local seismologist Jess Phoenix, the quakes unleashed energy equivalent to 334 atomic bombs, causing massive devastation across the region. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the tremors originated at a depth of just 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface, intensifying the damage.

The ongoing tectonic activity, where the Indian plate collides with the Eurasian plate, is expected to trigger aftershocks for months, further escalating the crisis. Reports indicate that over 1,600 lives have already been lost, according to Myanmar’s military government.

However, estimates from international agencies predict that the death toll could exceed 10,000 as rescue efforts continue and more casualties come to light. Global Aid Efforts Underway In response to the catastrophe, several nations have stepped forward with humanitarian assistance. India has launched ‘Operation Brahma,’ dispatching nearly 15 tons of relief materials.

It was including food supplies, temporary shelters, sleeping bags, water purifiers, solar lamps, generators, and emergency medical equipment. Additionally, India has sent 80 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel to aid in rescue and relief operations.
