In the bustling neighborhood of Chandrayangutta, Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad, Ameen Ahmad Ansari, a bus conductor stands out- quite literally.
At an astonishing height of 214 cm, Ansari’s stature has turned his job as a bus conductor into a physical ordeal. Ansari, who was appointed to the job at Mehdipatnam depot under compassionate grounds after his father, a head constable at Kachiguda depot, passed away in 2020, has been facing unique challenges ever since.
For him, the already tight space within public buses feels claustrophobic, requiring him to bend his head constantly while navigating the bus aisles. The long hours-often spanning five trips and ten hours a day- are taking a toll on his health, causing severe neck and back pain and even sleeplessness.
Adding to his plight is the bus’s height-an interior ceiling measuring just 195 cm makes it virtually impossible for Ansari to stand upright. The repetitive strain has forced him to make frequent trips to the hospital, leaving him both physically and emotionally drained. “It’s not just a job- it’s an everyday challenge,” Ansari laments.
Passengers have taken notice and are appealing to higher authorities, urging them to transfer Ansari to a more suitable position within the Road Transport Corporation (RTC). They believe his height should not be a liability but rather a unique characteristic that deserves thoughtful accommodation.
