GHMC Raid Reveals Poor Hygiene in Popular Bakeries.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted surprise raids on 90 bakeries across the city, revealing appalling conditions that have raised serious public health concerns. Directed by

commissioner RVkarnan food safety officers inspected 57 bakeries, collecting 80 food samples for analysis at the State food laboratory in Nacharam. The inspections exposed widespread violations, including open dustbins, housefly infestations, and food handlers working without hairnets or gloves. Many bakeries lacked valid FSSAI licenses, failed to display “best before” dates, and operated in unhygienic kitchens with food-littered floors and poor drainage systems.

Some units were found using expired ingredients, further compromising food safety. Notices have been issued to violators under the food safety standards act 2006 , with adjudication cases initiated for severe breaches. GHMC officials emphasized that the campaign will continue to enforce hygiene standards. “The conditions in some bakeries were shocking. Public health is our priority,” said a senior officer. Residents are urged to report unhygienic food outlets as GHMC intensifies its drive to ensure safe food practices across Hyderabad.
