According to the Moinabad police, the attackers were associated with a group called the ‘Society of Rama Rajya’ and demanded financial support from the priest. When Rangarajan refused, the group allegedly manhandled him and threatened him with dire consequences. The priest’s son, who tried to intervene, was also attacked.

The police have arrested one individual, Veera Raghava Reddy, in connection with the attack, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. The Temples Protection Movement, led by Rangarajan’s father, has condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation.

Local political leaders, including Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao, have criticized the Telangana government for its silence on the issue and demanded immediate action.

The Chilkur Balaji Temple, often referred to as the “Visa Balaji Temple,” is a popular pilgrimage site known for attracting devotees seeking blessings for travel abroad. The attack on the head priest has raised concerns about the safety of religious leaders and the need for better security measures.

C.S. Rangarajan: A Beacon of Tolerance and Reverence

C.S. Rangarajan, the esteemed head priest of the Chilkur Balaji Temple, is widely respected not only for his spiritual leadership but also for his unwavering commitment to promoting tolerance and harmony among all faiths. Despite being a prominent Hindu priest, Rangarajan has consistently advocated for mutual respect and understanding between different religious communities.

One of the most notable initiatives led by Rangarajan is the revival of the ancient ritual known as Muni Vahana Sena. This ritual, which dates back thousands of years, involves a priest carrying a Dalit devotee on his shoulders to promote social equality and eradicate caste-based discrimination. Rangarajan has personally participated in this ritual, carrying Dalit devotees on his shoulders, thereby sending a powerful message of inclusivity and unity.

Rangarajan’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. He has been praised for his dedication to social reform and his role in sensitizing devotees to the importance of reviving ancient temples and supporting the weavers’ community. His work with the Temples Protection Movement, which aims to prevent the commercialization and politicization of temple worship, has also garnered widespread admiration.

Beyond his religious duties, Rangarajan has been actively involved in various community welfare initiatives. He has encouraged devotees to wear handloom clothes on Saturdays to support local weavers and has played a key role in the movement to reform the temple system. His efforts have led to amendments in the Andhra Pradesh Endowments Act, highlighting the pitiable state of the Archaka community and advocating for their betterment.

Rangarajan’s commitment to promoting tolerance and his efforts to bridge the gap between different communities have earned him a place of high esteem across India. His actions serve as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that true devotion transcends religious boundaries and fosters a sense of unity and compassion.

The police are continuing their investigation. They are hopeful of swift justice and the safety of their spiritual leaders.
