Investigations revealed that Shivaram was smuggling ganja from California, USA, and selling it in Hyderabad. He was operating alongside another software engineer, Ajay, who is currently absconding. The duo was reportedly conducting their illegal business every weekend, supplying local ganja purchased in Bengaluru and transported to Hyderabad via private buses.
Both the boats which caught fire, went up in flames within minutes and the men who occupied them were saved engaging a rescue boat. The blaze spread rapidly, reducing the boats to ashes.
