Andhra extended a renewed push for its dream capital

Amaravati : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has injected fresh momentum into the Amaravati capital project, reaffirming the Centre’s unwavering support for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision to develop Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s sole capital. In a historic relaunch on May 2, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 94 development projects worth over Rs 58,000 crore, marking a decisive shift in Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructural future.

With Rs 49,000 crore allocated to 74 major projects- including the Legislative Assembly, Secretariat, High Court, and judicial residences- the revival underscores the government’s commitment to creating a world-class city. Modi’s endorsement comes after five years of political uncertainty under the previous YSRCP government’s controversial “three-capital” model, which stalled Amaravati’s progress.

Addressing a massive gathering, Modi asserted that Amaravati will serve as a growth engine for a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and pledged full central backing to fast-track its development. “Amaravati will not just be a state capital- it will be a beacon of progress, an example of India’s future,” he said, emphasizing that the Centre has already released Rs 4,200 crore for foundational infrastructure.

Naidu, who first envisioned Amaravati in 2014 post-bifurcation, has vowed to complete the project within three years. His ambitious plans include eco-friendly urban infrastructure, global educational institutions, and an iconic inverted lily-shaped assembly building. With renewed investor confidence, foreign collaborations-including the re-engagement of Singapore for the city’s masterplan- are picking up pace.

As Andhra Pradesh enters a crucial phase of transformation, Modi’s visit and financial assurances bolster Naidu’s resolve to deliver on his promise. With statutory amendments for Amaravati’s official status underway and loans from major financial institutions secured, the project is poised to become a symbol of pride and prosperity for the state.

As the dust settles on political debates, Amaravati is now on a fast track to becoming a reality- with Modi’s backing ensuring that the dream doesn’t just stay on paper.
