Mulugu: In a bold and coordinated effort, security forces have launched “Operation Karregutta,” targeting the elusive Maoist commander Madvi Hidma. Known for his strategic brilliance and violent operations, Hidma has long evaded capture, becoming the face of the CPI (Maoist) insurgency in India. This operation marks a significant escalation in the fight against Naxalite insurgency, focusing on the dense and rugged terrain of the Karregutta Hills, which straddle the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
Hidma, born in Purvati village in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, is a key figure in the Maoist movement. His journey from a class 10 graduate to the commander of Battalion 1 of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army is a testament to his tactical acumen. As the youngest member of the Maoists’ Central Committee, Hidma has orchestrated numerous attacks, earning a ₹45 lakh bounty on his head.
The Karregutta Hills, with their dense forests and challenging terrain, provide a natural hideout for insurgents. Intelligence reports suggest that Hidma and his battalion have been spotted in the area, prompting the deployment of over 7,000 personnel, including CRPF’s CoBRA units, District Reserve Guards, and Telangana Police. Advanced surveillance technologies, including drones, satellite imagery, and UAVs, are being used to track movements and gather actionable intelligence.
The operation is not just about capturing Hidma but also dismantling the military strength of the CPI (Maoists). Targeting Battalion 1 and the Maoists’ think tank in the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, the operation aims to weaken the insurgency’s core.
As the nation watches, the success of Operation Karregutta could mark a turning point in India’s decades-long battle against Maoist insurgency, bringing hope for peace and stability in the affected regions.
