Wagah Border Sealed with hundreds failing to make it in time

The Attari-Wagah border, a crucial land crossing between India and Pakistan, was completely shut down on May 1, 2025, halting all movement between the two nations. The closure follows heightened diplomatic tensions in the wake of recent security concerns.

Over the past week, 911 Pakistani nationals exited India, with 125 departing on Wednesday alone. Meanwhile, 23 Indian citizens crossed into Pakistan during the same period. Additionally, 152 Indian nationals and 73 Pakistani nationals holding long-term Indian visas entered India through the border.

For the first time in years, no individuals crossed the border today, leaving many stranded on both sides. Pakistani nationals who had been ordered to leave India found themselves unable to return home, as authorities on the other side reportedly refused to open the gates. Meanwhile, Indian citizens hoping to return from Pakistan were also left in limbo.

The sudden shutdown has disrupted travel plans, trade, and diplomatic exchanges, with uncertainty looming over when the border will reopen. Officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the duration of the closure or the fate of those affected.

Security forces remain on high alert, monitoring the situation closely as both governments weigh their next steps. The closure marks a significant shift in cross-border relations, with potential long-term implications for diplomatic ties and regional stability.
