Mystery shrouds fate of missing workers in Telangana’s SLBC tunnel

Massive Rescue Mission Ends on Grim Note

Hyderabad: The desperate rescue mission at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel has come to a tragic and unsuccessful conclusion. Despite the tireless efforts of rescue teams, the eight workers trapped since the collapse on February 22nd remain missing, their whereabouts still unknown.

A Heartbreaking Outcome
After days of relentless rescue efforts, expert rat miners and rescue personnel were unable to locate the missing workers. The accident zone, blocked by debris and waterlogging, emitted a foul smell, raising concerns about the conditions inside the tunnel. Experts suspect that the workers might be trapped beneath the damaged tunnel boring machine (TBM).

A Brave and Daring Effort
The 14-member team of rat miners from Uttarakhand, led by Firoz Qureshi, displayed exceptional bravery and skill. Entering the tunnel with ropes tied to their backs, they navigated through the hazardous environment to reach the collapsed TBM. Despite their heroic efforts to clear debris and create a pathway for other rescue teams, the workers could not be found.

Challenges and Setbacks
The rescue teams faced challenges, including continuous water flow and accumulated mud in the tunnel. They confirmed that the TBM was completely destroyed and identified the source of water flow from the tunnel lining. Despite making the rescue operation more manageable, the miners’ efforts were ultimately in vain.
