New FASTag Rules Effective from February 17, 2025

In an effort to enhance the efficiency of toll transactions and reduce fraudulent activities, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is introducing a new set of FASTag rules. These rules, which come into effect on February 17, 2025, are designed to streamline the toll payment process and ensure that vehicles passing through toll plazas are compliant with the necessary regulations. By understanding and adhering to these new rules, FASTag users can avoid penalties and enjoy a smoother travel experience.

1. 60-Minute Rule: If a FASTag has been blacklisted, placed on a hotlist, or marked as low balance for more than 60 minutes before reaching the toll plaza, the transaction will be declined.

2. 0-Minute Rule: If the FASTag remains blacklisted or inactive within 10 minutes after being scanned, the transaction will also be rejected.

3. Double Penalty: If a FASTag is blacklisted when it reaches the toll plaza, the charges depend on toll plaza enforcement policies. In some cases, toll plazas charge double the toll fee.

4. Grace Period: Users can recharge their FASTag within 10 minutes after the tag is read to avoid the double penalty.

5. Maintain Balance: Ensure your FASTag has sufficient balance before reaching toll plazas.

6. Update KYC: Regularly update your FASTag KYC details to prevent blacklisting.

7. Check Status: Verify your FASTag status before starting long journeys.
