Hyderabad: A new phase of Operation Akarsh has been launched, targeting Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs in Hyderabad. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud appears to be spearheading this mission. Despite ten of the 39 BRS MLAs having already joined the Congress party, significant progress in Hyderabad city remains elusive.
The Congress party has resumed efforts to lure BRS MLAs, with Goud claiming that some MLAs close to BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao are in touch with the Congress. It remains unclear whether this is a strategic mind game by the Congress or if there are genuine intentions of defection among the BRS MLAs.
Many BRS MLAs in Hyderabad have substantial corporate stakes and are deeply involved in the real estate business. Without government support, navigating their business operations smoothly could become challenging. The BRS has taken legal action against defections, moving the High Court to address the issue. The court has suggested that the Speaker act promptly on disqualifying MLAs who defected from Congress to BRS.
Some BRS MLAs considering joining Congress have reportedly been emboldened by assurances from the Congress party. The political landscape in Hyderabad remains tense as both parties maneuver for advantage.
