‘Women must carve their own spaces to be emerging success stories’

MNR University’s Fasalwadi campus was abuzz with energy on Friday as it hosted a memorable Women’s Day celebration. The event featured inspiring speeches from two notable women from different generations and fields: Jayanthi Jayasimha, known for her contributions to sports and social service, and Ashrita Vemuganti Nanduri, a film actress and Bharatanatyam teacher.

Jayanthi Jayasimha, the 85-year-old wife of the late cricket legend ML Jayasimha, encouraged young women to master the art of creating their own space. “We haven’t lagged behind. We have to keep up with the changing times and take up sports and arts to relieve stress while boosting our morale,” she said.

Jayanthi, who runs a cricket academy in memory of her husband, emphasized the importance of women taking on leadership roles for a better society. “Don’t feel shy in expressing your thoughts. Come up with questions without any hesitation,” she urged.

Ashrita Vemuganti Nanduri, who has appeared in nearly a dozen films, including the blockbuster Bahubali, highlighted the need for mental health awareness in today’s challenging world. She explained how extra-curricular activities can improve focus and confidence, helping women to face life’s challenges.

“It is a made-up world. Don’t get carried away by what you’ve seen on social media. They are away from reality, and you should make use of your time to acquire new skills,” Ashrita advised. She also praised homemakers, calling them the real heroes of the world.

The nearly two-hour programme, which included a lively Q&A session, was well received and appreciated by students and faculty members alike. The event was attended by the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Kiran, along with faculty members Dr. Usha M, D. Tahera Begum, Dr. Ravi, and others.

The Women’s Day celebration at MNR University served as a reminder of the importance of acquiring extra-curricular skills and the power of women in shaping a better society.
