Telangana: Heatwave a State-Specific Disaster now, Sunstroke death to get Rs 4 lakh

Hyderabad, April 15: The Telangana government has taken a significant step in response to the rising temperatures expected this summer. With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of severe heatwaves in 2025, the state government has issued an official notification declaring heatwaves and sunstrokes as state-specific disasters.

In a crucial move to protect citizens, the government has announced an increase in compensation for victims of heat-related illnesses. Under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), families of those who succumb to heatstroke will now receive Rs 4 lakh in ex-gratia payment. Previously, the compensation under the disaster relief scheme was Rs 50,000, marking a substantial increase in financial support.

The decision aims to create awareness about heatwave risks and ensure necessary precautions are taken. The government has urged citizens to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours. Officials are expected to roll out additional measures in the coming weeks to prevent heat-related casualties.

With temperatures expected to soar, this proactive move by the Telangana government highlights its commitment to public safety amid extreme weather conditions.
