Supreme Court revokes land allotment to high societies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has cancelled the land allocations made to housing societies within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. The decision, delivered by a bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, has sent shockwaves through the affected communities.

The Supreme Court’s verdict came in response to a petition filed by Rao B. Chelikani, challenging the government’s land allocations to various housing societies, including those for public representatives, officials, and journalists within the GHMC area. The court found the allocations to be improper and ordered their cancellation.

This ruling has particularly impacted the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalist Housing Society, where the Congress government had allocated house plots to its members. On September 8 of this year, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had handed over the allocation documents at a ceremony held at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. However, the Supreme Court’s decision has now cast uncertainty over the future of these land allocations.

The cancellation of these land allocations has raised concerns among the members of the affected housing societies, who are now left in a state of confusion and uncertainty regarding their property rights. The Hyderabad Herald will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
