Sufi Ecstasy at Chowmahalla: Anita Singhvi’s Divine Performance Leaves Hyderabad Spellbound


Hyderabad, January 17, 2026 – The historic Chowmahalla Palace, once the seat of the Nizams’ grandeur, transformed into a haven of spiritual melody on Saturday night as renowned Sufi Ghazal singer Anita Singhvi delivered an unforgettable concert at the Ghazal and Musical Evening.

Organized by the Telangana Sangeetha Nataka Academy under the Telangana Government, the event celebrated the soul-stirring essence of Sufi traditions, drawing a distinguished audience including Governor, Governor Jishnu Dev Verma, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister for Irrigation, Civil Supplies, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and host of digniatries.

The acclaimed exponent from the Gwalior gharana, mesmerized the gathering with her profound renditions, blending devotion, poetry, and timeless rhythm. The palace’s majestic halls echoed with her powerful invocation of “Allah Hoo, Allah Hoo, Allah Hoo” – a repetitive chant that invoked divine presence, creating waves of meditative ecstasy among attendees.

The highlight of the evening was her soulful interpretation of the classic Sufi qawwali -Dama Dam Mast Qalandar, a centuries-old ode to the revered saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. Featuring in her acclaimed album Sada-e-Sufi, this energetic piece – with its iconic lines praising the saint’s ecstasy and devotion – ignited the crowd with rhythmic fervor and spiritual joy.

Singhvi’s emotive delivery infused the timeless composition with a modern healing touch, making every breath resonate with divine love. The opulent setting of Chowmahalla Palace, illuminated under the night sky, provided a perfect backdrop for this cultural fusion of history and artistry.

Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, into a business family, Anita Singhvi discovered her passion for ghazals at age 15 and trained under Pandit Kshirsagar of the Gwalior gharana. She made her debut with the album Naqsh-e-Noor and has since released treasures like Sada-e-Sufi, Tajalli, and Zahe Naseeb, collaborating with legends such as Khayyam.

Attendees described the performance as “divine” and “healing,” with Singhvi’s mastery over poets like Ghalib, Allama Iqbal, and Sufi classics evoking deep emotional resonance. This enchanting evening not only highlighted Anita Singhvi’s enduring legacy as one of India’s foremost Sufi Ghazal exponents but also reinforced Hyderabad’s role as a vibrant hub of cultural heritage, where Sufi melodies continue to bridge hearts, eras, and souls.
