Vizianagaram: In a dramatic turn of events, a man posing as an IPS officer was arrested by the police in Vizianagaram. The accused, identified as Balivada Suryaprakash from Ambativalasa village, had been impersonating an IPS officer to gain control over his late father’s land.
The Story Unfolds
Suryaprakash, who had previously served in the Indian Army from 2003 to 2005, left his job and ventured into various businesses, including running a shop in Vizianagaram. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to his village after his father’s death and discovered that his father had made advance payments for nine acres of land. To claim this land, Suryaprakash decided to impersonate an IPS officer.
He created fake ID cards, stitched a police uniform, and began visiting relatives and friends in his new avatar. His activities came to light when he attended a program by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan in Panasabhadra Panchayat, posing as an IPS officer and taking photos with VIPs. These photos were later posted on his WhatsApp status, raising suspicions among those who knew him well.
The Arrest
The police, upon receiving information about Suryaprakash’s activities, closely monitored his movements and arrested him on Saturday. They seized two fake ID cards, two sets of uniforms, a jungle patch uniform, nameplates, whistle cards, an old car, a laptop, and a cellphone from his possession. A case has been registered against him under Section 165/24, and he has been taken into custody.
Further Investigation
Suryaprakash was apprehended in Visakhapatnam by Vizianagaram Rural and SB CIs Lakshman Rao and RVRK Chowdary. He was handed over to the Parvathipuram Town Police Station, where a case had already been registered against him.
