Amaravati : In a decisive move aimed at reinvigorating its Andhra Pradesh unit, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed senior leader and former MLC P. Vishnu Vardhan Madhav as the new state president. His uncontested nomination was filed on June 30, with strong backing from key party figures, reflecting the central leadership’s intent to reshape regional strategy ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Madhav succeeds Daggubati Purandeswari, who helmed the party since July 2023 and oversaw a notable electoral performance in 2024, securing 8 Assembly and 3 Lok Sabha seats. Despite these gains, the BJP opted for new leadership to strengthen its footprint in a state dominated by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP), BJP’s allies in the NDA.
Hailing from the backward classes and Rayalaseema region, Madhav brings grassroots credibility and ideological grounding through his association with RSS and BJYM. His elevation is seen as part of BJP’s social engineering push to broaden its appeal beyond traditional upper-caste support. The leadership transition coincides with similar reshuffles in Telangana and Maharashtra, pointing to a nationwide strategy post J.P. Nadda’s extended tenure. Sources suggest that Madhav’s inclusive approach will help bridge regional divides and prepare the cadre for coalition dynamics in the evolving Andhra Pradesh landscape.
