KTR Formula-E Case: ACB and ED waiting on their wings

Amid ongoing investigations by multiple agencies into the Formula-E case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has issued fresh summons to BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) to appear for questioning on Thursday (January 9, 2025). The summons were served at KTR’s residence in Raidurgam, Hyderabad.

This comes after KTR’s initial visit to the ACB office earlier during which he left without entering the premises as his lawyer was denied entry. Instead, KTR submitted a written statement to the ACB officials and requested legal representation during questioning. Hours later, the ACB issued a second summons, compelling him to appear again later this week.

The Telangana High Court is expected to deliver its verdict on Tuesday regarding KTR’s petition to quash the ACB case. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in payments made to London-based Formula E Operations (FEO) for organizing the prestigious Formula-E race in Hyderabad.

Adding to the legal scrutiny, KTR is also slated to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday. The ED had filed a case on December 20, alleging money laundering and potential violations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in connection with the Formula-E payments.

The central agency is investigating the involvement of senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and retired HMDA engineer BLN Reddy, who have sought additional time to respond to the ED’s summons.
