Hyderabad: Secunderabad’s Jeera Corner, a bustling junction connecting Rashtrapati Road, is a lifeline for commuters, with hundreds of vehicles zipping through every minute. Yet, a seemingly small ditch at this critical intersection has become a life-threatening menace, symbolizing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) neglect of road maintenance. This unassuming pothole, barely a foot wide, has caused numerous accidents, from skidding two-wheelers to near-collisions among cars, endangering lives daily.
Local residents and shopkeepers report frequent mishaps, with at least three minor accidents weekly. “It’s a death trap,” says Rajesh Kumar, a nearby vendor. “Fixing it would cost peanuts, but GHMC ignores it.” The pothole, worsened by recent rains, disrupts traffic flow, forcing drivers to swerve dangerously. Despite complaints, no action has been taken, highlighting systemic apathy.
The cost to repair this hazard is minimal- experts estimate less than Rs 5,000, yet the delay underscores GHMC’s broader failure to maintain Hyderabad’s roads. With the city’s traffic volume rising, such neglect risks more lives. Commuters demand urgent action, urging GHMC to prioritize safety over indifference before this small ditch claims a bigger toll.
