Hyderabad’s rare pet, Dogo Argentino to be relocated in a secure location way from public

The Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed EB Dakshina Murthy to relocate his pet dog, a Dogo Argentino named Ares, from his Chikkadpally residence to a secure location away from public contact. The decision follows a legal dispute in which Murthy challenged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for taking custody of Ares on May 19 based on police directives.

The dispute stems from a complaint lodged by Murthy’s brother, EB Narasimha Murthy, who alleged that the dog- believed to be a banned breed in India- was used to intimidate him and other residents of Ekkaladevi Elite Residency. He further claimed that Ares had attacked him on May 18, providing medical records to support his complaint.

Dakshina Murthy contended the dog was seized without prior notice and raised concerns over Ares’ treatment at GHMC facilities, including confinement in a small cage and lack of proper care.

Justice B Vijaysen Reddy ordered Ares’ release, instructing the owner to ensure the dog is housed where it cannot pose a threat to others. The judge also directed the impleadment of Narasimha Murthy in the case and permitted GHMC to act in accordance with the law if the breed is officially prohibited.
