Hyderabad: The city of Hyderabad has made it to the list of most polluted cities. The air quality in Hyderabad has been deteriorating due to increasing vehicular traffic, and government negligence towards pollution control. The city, which has seen a rise in traffic congestion for the past five year, has now become a new addition to the list of polluted cities of India. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) report, Hyderabad ranks seventh among the most polluted cities in India. The report reveals that while Delhi tops the list with the highest AQI, cities like Bengaluru and Chennai fare better than Hyderabad, even with their constant traffic issues.
Environmental Degradation : Environmental protection efforts in Hyderabad have significantly declined. The Pollution Control Board’s lack of monitoring has led to a rapid drop in air quality. The drastic increase in vehicle traffic has resulted in a substantial rise in dust and particulate matter in the air, further deteriorating the AQI.
The city’s air quality index has plummeted alarmingly, placing Hyderabad among the most polluted cities in the country. The inhaled air in the city is causing severe health issues due to the high levels of carbon emissions from vehicles, industrial waste, and other pollutants. The failure of the Pollution Control Board to regulate these factors has turned Hyderabad into a pollution hotspot.
Polluted Cities in India:The AQI-based report lists Delhi at the top with an AQI of 567, followed by Patna, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Bhopal. Hyderabad stands at seventh place with an AQI of 170. Despite Mumbai and Bengaluru facing constant traffic woes, their air quality remains better than Hyderabad’s, with these cities ranking 11th and 12th respectively in the list of polluted cities.
