Ending contractual legacy: In a big shake up Revanth fires 6,729 BRS time appointees

Hyderabad: In a decisive move to overhaul governance, the Congress-led Telangana government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has terminated the services of 6,729 retired employees working on a contractual basis. This bold decision marks a significant departure from the policies of the previous BRS regime, which had placed many of these officials in key positions.

The government views these individuals as beneficiaries of the BRS legacy, and their removal spans across various cadres, from attendants to IAS officers. Among those affected are notable figures such as Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy, Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority (YTDA) Vice Chairman G. Kishan Rao, and consultant engineer BLN Reddy. Additionally, ten directors from Transco and Genco have been relieved of their duties.

Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari issued orders mandating the termination of all contractual employees by the end of this month. The government has clarified that if their services are deemed necessary, fresh notifications and orders will be issued for their reappointment. The Municipal Administration Department has already acted on these orders, relieving 177 retired employees from their positions across various departments, including HMDA, GHMC, Hyderabad Waterworks, Metro Rail, RERA, MEPMA, KUDA, and YTDA.

This sweeping move is seen as paving the way for new appointments, creating opportunities for over 6,000 job seekers and facilitating promotions for existing employees. The decision has sparked widespread discussions within the Secretariat, with many viewing it as a step towards streamlining governance and enhancing efficiency. It also signals a clear break from the contractual legacy of the BRS regime, setting the tone for a new era in Telangana’s administrative policies.
