Big Stand in Mollywood: Actress Refuses Roles with Drug-Using Co-Stars

The Malayalam film industry, Mollywood has once again found itself in the spotlight following allegations of sexual harassment and drug abuse. Actress Vincy Sony Aloshious, known for her role in “Jana Gana Mana,” has accused a co-star of inappropriate behavior during a film shoot. Speaking at an awareness event on drug abuse, she revealed that the actor, allegedly under the influence of drugs, made unwelcome advances and caused her significant distress on set.

Vincy recounted an incident where she felt uncomfortable in her costume and headed to the dressing room to change. The actor, in front of the entire crew, offered to accompany her and assist with changing, leaving her embarrassed and humiliated. She also alleged that the actor frequently consumed drugs on set. Despite reporting the matter to the film’s director and producer, no action was taken due to fears of halting the production, as the accused played a lead role.

Vincy, who began her acting career in 2019, has since made a name for herself in the industry, even winning the Kerala State Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film “Rekha.” However, she has now vowed never to work with individuals involved in drug abuse, emphasizing the need for a safer and more respectful working environment in the film industry.

These revelations come in the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report, which highlighted widespread issues of casting couch practices and sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry. While the report initially brought hope for change, incidents like these underscore the ongoing challenges faced by women in cinema.
