A Special Day for Telangana Assembly, hails legacy of Dr Manmohan Singh

Hyderabad, December 30, 2024 – The Telangana Legislative Assembly held a special session today to pay homage to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26. The session, convened by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar at 10 a.m., saw members from all parties gather to honor Dr. Singh’s legacy.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy praised Dr. Singh as one of the greatest economists, leaders, and humanitarians of our times. He highlighted Dr. Singh’s pivotal role in shaping India’s economic landscape and his instrumental contributions to the formation of Telangana while demanding Bharat Ratna for the great leader. Revanth Reddy described Dr. Singh’s demise as an irreplaceable loss to the nation.

The state government had declared a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions on December 27 as a mark of respect, along with a seven-day mourning period.

During the session, members recalled Dr. Singh’s profound impact on the nation. BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao mentioned his association with Dr. Singh during the Telangana movement and their collaboration in the Cabinet.

K.T. Rama Rao, known for his strong support of Telangana’s formation, also paid tribute to Dr. Singh. He emphasized the importance of Telangana’s identity and development, often highlighting the struggles and achievements of the Telangana movement.

The special session served as a solemn occasion to remember and honor the life and contributions of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a statesman who left an indelible mark on India’s history.
