Bijapur ( Chhattisgarh): A road roller was engulfed in flames near Pamalvaya village on the Gangloor main road in Bijapur, a Naxalite -infested region, around 4:00 PM on June 24. The incident, which occurred within the Bijapur police station limits, caused significant damage to the heavy vehicle. Fire brigade personnel responded swiftly, bringing the blaze under control and allowing traffic to resume on the affected stretch.
Given the location in a known Maoist stronghold and the ongoing anti-Naxal Opertion kagar, authorities are not ruling out the possibility of arson by Maoists insurgents. The operation, one of the largest anti-Naxal initiatives in the region, has put significant pressure on the outlawed extremist groups, leading to heightened tensions and reported counterattacks by Maoists in recent months.
Bijapur, part of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, has been a focal point of intensified security operations aimed at dismantling Maoist networks. Operation Kagar, launched in April 2025, has resulted in the elimination of over 90 Naxalites this year, including high-profile leaders, and the destruction of numerous hideouts and weapon caches.
