Farmers go all out opposing ethanol factory in Jogulamba

Hyderabad: Farmers and residents of Pedda Dhanwada village in Jogulamba Gadwal district, Telangana, staged a fierce protest on June 4, 2025, against the construction of an ethanol factory by Gayathri Renewable Fuels and Allied Industries Private Limited. The unrest erupted after the company allegedly resumed groundwork late on Tuesday night, despite earlier state assurances of a project review.
The community opposes the factory, fearing severe environmental damage, including air and water pollution that could contaminate groundwater and degrade fertile farmland. With agriculture as the backbone of the region, locals worry about water scarcity and threats to their livelihoods, echoing concerns from similar protests in Nirmal and Nizamabad districts. A farmer declared, “These factories ruin our land and future. Without land, how can we grow food?”
Tensions escalated as protesters attacked construction officers with sticks, threw stones, and damaged tents and equipment. Chanting slogans, they demanded the project’s permanent cancellation. Registered in Andhra Pradesh, the company had secured clearances, but villagers from Pedda Dhanwada and ten nearby areas remain resolute.
The situation is tense, with no clear resolution from authorities. Farmers vow to continue their fight to protect their land, health, and way of life.
