Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha led a spirited ‘Maha Dharna’ at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on Wednesday, protesting the notices issued to former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) by the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission. The commission is probing alleged irregularities in the construction of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, particularly focusing on the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages, which suffered damage after the sinking of piers at Medigadda in 2023.
Kavitha, addressing a large gathering of Telangana Jagruthi members and BRS supporters, labeled the commission a “Congress Commission” and accused the ruling Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, of pursuing “vendetta politics” to defame KCR. “The notices to KCR garu are politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing the image of a true people’s leader,” she declared amid chants of “Jai Telangana” and “Jai KCR.” She emphasized that the Kaleshwaram project, a transformative initiative, irrigated millions of acres, provided 40 TMC of water to Hyderabad, and supported industries with 16 TMC, lifting water from 90 to 600 meters against gravity.
Kavitha questioned the government’s failure to summon Krishna Reddy of Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), which built 15 pump houses for the project, and criticized the focus on just three pillars of the Medigadda barrage to discredit the entire scheme. She also demanded that Telangana’s rightful share of Godavari water be protected, vowing to escalate protests “from gully to Delhi” against any diversion to Andhra Pradesh.
The protest, held from 10 am to 1 pm, saw thousands rally in support of KCR, who is expected to appear before the commission on June 5. Kavitha condemned the Congress for neglecting minor repairs to Medigadda and urged CM Reddy to end the “dirty political game.” The demonstration highlighted KCR’s legacy in transforming Telangana’s agricultural landscape, intensifying the political battle ahead.
