Hard disk theft in Raj Bhavan: Security protocols under scrutiny

Hyderabad: A theft at Telangana’s Raj Bhavan has caused a major stir across the state, raising concerns about security lapses in one of the most protected government buildings. The incident occurred on April 14, when four hard disks were found missing from Sudharma Bhavan within the premises. CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect entering the area wearing a helmet.

Raj Bhavan staff quickly lodged a complaint with Punjagutta police, who have since registered a case and launched an investigation. The incident has triggered debates about the efficiency of security measures in such high-profile government locations.

Police Statement on the Investigation

Punjagutta ACP Mohan Kumar provided insights into the case, explaining that the missing hard disks are linked to Srinivas, a 45-year-old IT employee, who was previously arrested on April 12 for allegedly morphing photos of a female employee working at Raj Bhavan. Following his arrest, higher officials reportedly suspended him.

According to police, Srinivas returned to Raj Bhavan on April 14, intending to retrieve the hard disks that allegedly contained morphed photos and videos. He is said to have stolen them while wearing a helmet to obscure his identity.

Authorities arrested Srinivas again on April 15 and sent him to remand, filing an additional case against him. ACP Mohan Kumar clarified that no official government documents or files were stolen, dismissing speculation about sensitive information being compromised.

The case has drawn attention to security protocols at Raj Bhavan, while the investigation is in progress.
