The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have arrested the engineer-in-chief (ENC), Hari Ram of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project. Following extensive raids conducted across 14 locations, including his residence and relatives’ properties , ACB officials uncovered assets worth over Rs 200 crore allegedly amassed illegally.
Hari Ram was presented before a judge late at night, where he was remanded to custody for 14 days. The investigation revealed extensive assets, including prime real estate in Hyderabad’s Kondapur, Shaikpet, and Madhapur, as well as agricultural lands in Gajwel and Markook. Additionally, officials found luxury flats in Srinagar Colony and Patancheru, along with independent houses and mango farms.
The ACB also confiscated luxury cars, jewelry, and significant bank deposits. Hari Ram’s wife, Anita, a Deputy ENC in the irrigation department, was questioned as part of the probe. The investigation pointed to possible benami transactions to conceal assets.
This case follows allegations of corruption linked to design modifications within the Kaleshwaram Project. It is speculated that Hari Ram played a pivotal role in these irregularities. Authorities also suspect the involvement of two retired irrigation officials associated with the project.
In an official statement, ACB hinted that the asset valuation could escalate further as investigations continue. Notably, properties in Andhra Pradesh, including commercial plots in Amaravati, were also identified.
