Hyderabad: Hyderabad came alive with vibrant celebrations of Utkal Divas, commemorating the 90th anniversary of Odisha’s state formation. The festivities were inaugurated at Raj Bhavan, where Governor Jishnu Dev Varma delivered a heartfelt address, appreciating the cultural richness of Odisha and its pivotal role in India’s progress. He underscored the need to preserve Odisha’s traditions while embracing modernity.
The event saw participation from eminent personalities, including Dr. Sowmya Mishra, DGP Prisons; BP Acharya, former IAS officer; and Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Governor. The presence of army personnel and other dignitaries added gravitas to the occasion. A special moment featured BP Acharya presenting the Governor with the second edition of his cartoon collection, Obtuse Angle, a satirical take on bureaucracy.
The celebrations expanded beyond Raj Bhavan to the Kalinga Cultural Centre and the renowned Jagannath Temple. At the Kalinga auditorium, audiences were enthralled by cultural performances, including mesmerizing Odissi dance and soul-stirring folk music. Meanwhile, the Jagannath Temple hosted special prayers, embodying the spiritual essence of the state.
The day reflected Odisha’s evolution from its historic formation to its modern significance as a cultural and economic powerhouse. The highlight was a spectacular display of Odisha’s handicrafts and culinary traditions, leaving attendees inspired by the state’s enduring legacy.
