Devastating earthquake shakes Bangladesh, Maynmar and Thailand, Hundreds killed

Dhaka: A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.3 struck Bangladesh on Friday, with tremors felt in various parts of the country, including Dhaka and Chattogram. The tremors were felt across northeastern India, with reports of mild panic in several states. Official  reports  in India have also acknowledged the impact.

The seismic event, which occurred at 12:25 PM, also impacted several regions in India, causing widespread concern. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake’s epicentre was located in Mandalay, Myanmar, near the Bangladesh border, approximately 597 kilometres from Dhaka. Md Rubayat Kabir, acting officer of the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre, classified the event as a major seismic occurrence.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a slightly higher magnitude of 7.7, with the epicentre situated 16 kilometres north-northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
