New Delhi : India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar faced a distressing incident during his visit to London when Khalistani supporters attempted to attack him. The incident unfolded outside Chatham House, where Jaishankar was attending a discussion.
A video circulating online shows a man rushing towards Jaishankar’s vehicle and tearing the Indian national flag in front of London police officers, who appeared unresponsive. The protestors, waving separatist flags and chanting slogans, created chaos as they tried to disrupt the minister’s engagements.
Despite the provocation, Jaishankar remained focused on his diplomatic mission, holding discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. The incident raises serious concerns about security lapses and the need for better protection for high-ranking officials during international visits.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has urged the UK to take strong action against extremist groups to prevent such incidents in the future.
