Now, Telangana Congress under new stewardship

In a significant move, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Meenakshi Natarajan as the new in-charge for Telangana, replacing Deepa Dasmunsi. This change comes at a crucial juncture for the Congress party, which is striving to regain its foothold in the state. Natarajan’s appointment is seen as a strategic decision aimed at revitalizing the party’s structure and boosting morale among its cadres.

Natarajan’s first major action, suspending Teenmar Mallanna, Congress MLC, who owed a great deal to the organisation, has sent a strong message to the party members. It underscores her commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that everyone works towards the common goal of strengthening the Congress party in Telangana. This move is likely to remind leaders that the success of the party is a collective effort and not just the result of a few individuals’ actions.

Her leadership style, which emphasizes unity and collective effort, is expected to resonate well with the grassroots workers who have felt sidelined. By addressing the grievances of the party workers and ensuring that their efforts are recognized, Natarajan is likely to motivate them to work harder for the party’s success. Her straightforward and grounded approach has already started making waves, instilling confidence among the party workers.

Natarajan’s appointment comes at a time when the Congress party is facing stiff competition from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of purpose to the party. By focusing on the functioning of the party organisational network, Natarajan aims to strengthen the party’s support base and ensure its success in the upcoming elections to local bodies.

In summary, Meenakshi Natarajan’s actions and leadership style are likely to send a clear message to all party members: the success of the Congress party in Telangana depends on the collective efforts of all its members, and discipline and unity are paramount. A sense of alienation has already gripped the genuine flag bearers of the party and its loyalists. Her approach is expected to help assuage the ruffled feelings of party workers and functionaries feeling let down.

Meenakshi Natarajan has a rich political background and has earned the trust of the Congress high command through her dedication and leadership. She started her political career with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and later became the President of the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress. She served as a Member of Parliament from Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, from 2009 to 2014.

Natarajan is known for her simplicity and down-to- earth approach, which has resonated well with party workers and leaders alike. On her maiden visit to the state after being appointed as AICC incharge for Telangana affairs, she arrived in Hyderabad traveling by train, shunning the fanfare that is expected to be associated with a leader of her stature, while taking over the new assignment.
