New Delhi: A tragic incident occurred at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of approximately 18 people, including four children, and leaving more than ten others injured. The incident transpired as a large crowd of devotees converged at the station to board special trains arranged by the Railway Department for the Maha Kumbh Mela.
The stampede erupted around platforms 14 and 16, where the influx of people overwhelmed the station’s capacity. The injured were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, with rescue teams on site assisting in the evacuation and treatment of the victims.
Hospital authorities at LNJP (Lok Nayak Jai Prakash) confirmed the casualties, emphasizing the tragic loss of young lives. Both Delhi Lieutenant Governor Saxena and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have expressed their condolences over the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also assured that all necessary measures are being taken to assist those affected.
High-Level Probe Ordered
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered a high-level inquiry to investigate the cause of the stampede and to prevent such incidents in the future. In the wake of the tragedy, special trains have been arranged to manage the heavy rush, and additional security personnel have been deployed to control the situation.
Various political leaders have criticized the government’s handling of the situation and demanded transparency and accountability. The situation remains tense, but authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers.
