In a major operation against Left Wing Extremism, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district gunned down 31 Naxalites during an encounter on Sunday morning. The gunfight took place in the forests of Indravati National Park area, where a joint team of personnel from different security forces was conducting an anti-Naxalite operation.
The encounter resulted in the deaths of two security personnel, one from the District Reserve Guard and the other from the Special Task Force. Two other jawans were injured and airlifted to Raipur for medical treatment. The injured personnel are reported to be out of danger.
A large cache of weapons and explosives was seized from the site, highlighting the intensity of the operation. The Bastar Range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P, confirmed the details of the encounter and stated that the bodies of all the Naxalites have been recovered.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalism in the region. The Bastar division, comprising seven districts including Bijapur, has seen a significant number of encounters this year, with 81 Naxalites killed so far. Last year, 219 Naxalites were neutralized by security forces in separate encounters across Chhattisgarh.
