Hyderabad to host International kite flying event from Jan 13

Hyderabad: The city of Hyderabad is gearing up to host the 7th International Kite and Sweet Festival at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds from January 13 to 15. Organized by the Tourism and Culture Department, this grand celebration is set to coincide with the Sankranti festival, offering a unique blend of cultural experiences.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao unveiled the festival’s official poster at Haritha Plaza in Begumpet. During the poster release event, the Minister also visited various sweet stalls, tasting and appreciating traditional homemade sweets prepared by women from across different states.

Highlighting the festival’s importance, Minister Jupally emphasized that it reflects Telangana’s rich culture and traditions while boosting Hyderabad’s global brand image. He fondly referred to Hyderabad as a “Mini India,” celebrating the harmony and diversity of its people.

The festival will feature 47 international kite flyers from 16 countries and 60 domestic kite club members from 14 Indian states, showcasing kites in stunning and unique designs. Additionally, a variety of national, international, and traditional sweets from Telangana will be available at the stalls.

The Minister underscored the significance of exploring Telangana’s historical sites, heritage structures, and ancient temples, as it not only offers tourists a glimpse into the region’s cultural and historical heritage but also supports local employment and livelihoods.

The event is open to everyone and free of charge, inviting the public to join in this grand celebration. Minister Jupally also announced plans to expand the festival to rural and urban areas across the state in the coming years.
