Hyderabad: As a precautionary move, the Rachakonda police made additional deployments in Bhongir as tension gripped the town with the BRS gearing up for large-scale protests decrying the attack on its district unit office by Congress activists. They denied permission for the Maha Dharna called by the BRS.

Police resorted to preemptive arrests targeting the activists of both the Congress and BRS in Bhongir and Alair assembly constituencies as the BRS called for staging demonstrations on Sunday in protest against the attack on the party office.
The police held the BRS leaders responsible for disrupting life by organizing protests against the attack. As part of the preventive arrests, several leaders were picked up from their houses in the early hours. According to reports reaching here, police launched a crackdown around midnight.
Several BRS leaders, including the former Grandhalaya Samshtha chairman Amarender Goud, former Rythu Bandhu Samithi president Kolupula Amarender, Aleru MLA Budida Bikshamaiah Goud, former MLAs Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy and Gongidi Sunitha, have been placed under house arrest. BRS leaders resented the police action and alleged that many of the accused who were involved in the attack were let off.
